Apart from its mountains, Ladakh is known for its high-octane river rafting expeditions where rafting routes send you through professionally guided runs along the Indus River, the Zanskar, Spituk River and the Nimoo River. Also, for many of our routes. participants are required to be trained before commencing forth on their expedition.
Here are a few of our rafting expedition routes along the Indus and Zanskar rivers:
Padum to Nimoo:
Prepare for a week of rafting and temporary wilderness living as you excitedly make your way from the town of Padum to the village of Nimoo along the Indus River. If you go in the winter, expect all the high passes to freeze into a beautiful wintery display, but if cold is not your idea of a good time, either the summer or fall months (preferably June through October) are perfect.
Hemis to Choglamsar:
With Hemis and Choglamsar within close proximity, this one day, 3-hour rafting expedition is an easy route with calm moving water minus the obstacles (there’s only a few minor rapids you have to tackle). And as you twist and turn among the waves, floating past the villages of Stakna, Shey, Thiksey, and Choushot, and then Choglamsar, remember that you can also stretch this adventure into a multi-day expedition.
Phey to Nimoo:
The most popular of our one-day rafting journey in all of Ladakh, the Phey to Nimoo trek is a simple voyage without the harsh, rolling rapids. With Phey located only 28 km away from Nimoo, the fast and thrilling time you’ll spend on the Zanskar and Indus River will still your beating heart as you gaze upon the lush landscape and heavenly scenery from point A to point B.
Nimoo to Alchi:
As all rafting expeditions are scaled from 1-5 (with 5 being the hardest), if you’re looking for a challenge, a route that you refuse to go down easily, then perhaps firing along the watery path from Nimoo to Alchi (a monastery and village in Ladahk) is the rafting way to go. This grade four rafting expedition comes complete with waves, powerful and strong, that requires the most precise maneuvering.
Spituk to Saspol:
Along the Indus River, the best stretch of professionally guided rafting runs is in between Spituk and Saspol (two districts located in Ladakh) that provides scenic views for all who raft aboard. This is ideal for basic training and for you to become familiarized with the craft of rafting.
