Headrush Corporate Training - Team Building Activities

Introduction

Building strong, cohesive teams

Team dynamics are an intangible at their core – unseen, but always felt and known. They are, for example:

  • The silent resentment one member might feel when another is allotted a desired piece of work
  • How much 'on the same page' all the different parts of the same team are
  • The shared story – 'what are we creating together?' and the individual perspective – 'what is my role in this team'
  • How the fault finding and responsibility-taking processes works within a team

How we come in

The Headrush approach to team building is three-fold:

  • Step 1: Identitication: where is the discord, if any?
    • The beauty of using the medium that we do (high-intensity activities) is that the feedback is almost always very honest
    • eg. During a high-intensity war scenario game – how consistent are the player's actions with the team strategy? What are the obstacles to that consistency?
  • Step 2: Awareness: could this be an issue?
    • Making teams aware of the factors that seemingly hurt their cohesion – with observations from the activities serving as empirical proof
    • It is important to note that at this stage, that the issues are not brought out as faults to implicate anyone but rather as general weaknesses at the team level
  • Step 3: Solution
    • Typically, a much longer process, where not only are teams made aware whether the fractures might lie – but where over a series of steps and exercises, these fractures are gradually repaired.

Summary

Different groups have different structures, problems and types of fractures that they'd like highlighted. Therefore, every team building programme, is unique, and will be determined upon meeting with the client and trainers and gauging:

  • The status of their teams at the moment
  • Where they'd like to see their teams in the future

Activities are then customized by the trainers to whatever length they need to be, in order to best achieve the client's requirement.
